What affects Florida home insurance rates?
Many factors do, and one you control is the hurricane deductible. Florida insurers must offer hurricane deductible options of $500, 2 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent of dwelling limits, with some exceptions for higher limits. Ask how each option changes your premium and your out-of-pocket cost after a hurricane.
A policy with a separate hurricane deductible must say so on its face in bold 18-point type, warning it may result in high out-of-pocket expenses.
If a licensed insurer becomes insolvent, FIGA steps in to take over covered claims and issue eligible refunds.

How much does flood insurance cost in Florida?
The NFIP flood policy median (federal flood only) is shown in the county table with policy counts. It covers single-family policies effective June 2026 from OpenFEMA. Current flood zones determine the splits; groups below 30 policies are hidden. Individual quotes vary.
Policy cost here includes the calculated premium, reserve fund assessment, federal policy fee and HFIAA surcharge, per FEMA's data dictionary.
Private flood and voluntary market prices are not in this data.

What car insurance does Florida require?
Florida requires at least $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection and $10,000 in Property Damage Liability for every vehicle with a current Florida registration. You must keep continuous coverage even if the vehicle is not driven, and you should surrender the plate before cancelling insurance.
PIP covers 80 percent of necessary and reasonable medical expenses up to $10,000 from a covered injury, no matter who caused the crash.
